The fourth edition of The Human Central Nervous System marks a significant evolution from its predecessors. With a focus on the latest developments in neuroanatomy, this edition is extensively updated with 15 newly written chapters that introduce the structural and functional aspects of the human brain. It begins with gross anatomy, blood vessels, meninges, and the microstructure, followed by chapters dedicated to the development, topography, and functional anatomy of the spinal cord, brain stem, cerebellum, diencephalon, and telencephalon.

This edition pays particular attention to the evolutionary development of the human brain, integrating recent concepts and data. The text now uses English and Anglicized Latin terminology, marking a departure from the Latin terms used in earlier editions. Furthermore, more than 230 new illustrations have been added, along with revisions to existing ones. The inclusion of a greater number of macroscopical sections through the brain enhances its value as a comprehensive atlas for interpreting neuroimaging studies.

Key Features:

  • Detailed updates on the neuroanatomy, functional systems, and development of the brain.
  • Correlations with neuropathology and clinical neurology for practical application.
  • Extended and revised pictorial material, including over 230 new illustrations.
  • Enhanced macroscopical sections of the brain, providing a complete reference for neuroimaging.
  • A focus on the evolutionary development of the human brain, presenting new and comprehensive insights into human neuroanatomy.

A crucial reference for students, clinicians, and researchers in the fields of neuroanatomy, neuropathology, and neurology.

This one had been difficult to get hold of for a whle and was also slightly in need of an update. However the authors have done a splendid job at re-working this classic book on neuroanatomy, It is absolutely indispensable to understand the organization of the CNS. It has been expanded and it is not too expensive.
